Here is my simple dumpling sauce that you can make at home. And the best part? It only requires FOUR ingredients!
A good dumpling sauce consists of a combination of tangy, spicy, and savory flavors. It should balance with the dumpling and not overpower it.
The secret is using Chinkiang Black Vinegar. Why? The flavor of black vinegar is much more toasted and savory compared to other vinegars. It is slightly sweet, so you can control the amount of sweetness in the sauce using sugar.
Our sauce goes well with any type of dumpling. Our favorite dumplings to eat are Milá’s Soup Dumplings. They’re super juicy and also sold at Costco.
We also love making our own dumplings! (Follow along for when we drop the recipe!)
Ingredients
- 2 parts Chinkiang Black Vinegar (can substitute with Apple Cider Vinegar)
- 1 part Soy Sauce
- Sugar (to taste)
- Chili Oil (to taste)
Instructions
- Mix everything into a bowl and serve with hot dumplings!
Option to add fresh garlic slivers, sesame seeds, and sesame oil for more flavor. It’s not required, but if you need more flavor or kick, this is a great way to add that final touch to your sauce.
If you have leftover dumpling sauce, you can add some peanut butter and sesame oil, toss it in noodles with your favorite sliced veggies in a pan, and you have a delicious noodle dish!
